Sorry for taking so long to reply to this thread *^_^* My name is Dire Sloth, I’m a twitchy, neurotic weirdo from California, currently living somewhere in the Midwest. I’m on board as both a writer and an artist.
I am nominally into video games, anime, manga, comic books, and fantasy literature, but to be honest I spend most of my time nowadays doing schoolwork, worrying about schoolwork, and surfing the internet while avoiding schoolwork. I have a two-year degree in Graphic Design and am currently working towards some general education requirements so I can try and earn a BFA in Creative Writing. My ultimate goal is to become a published fantasy author or a comic script or animation scriptwriter. I’ve dreamed of being a character designer/concept artist, but I doubt my illustration skills will ever be that good.
I always feel a little envious of artists who say they’ve been drawing since they could hold a crayon, because I only really started wanting to learn to draw when I was in high school. I was really bored one day in study hall and started doodling in my notebook, and it was like something clicked. I convinced my parents to buy me a bunch of those cheap “how to draw anime/manga” books that Christmas, studied them religiously, eventually got tired of the limitations of that style (or from a more cynical point of view, tired of my own inability to draw it effectively) and started studying books on classical figure drawing and western comic book styles. To be honest, my work is still far too amateurish to be really called any style, but I’m hoping to eventually create something visually interesting and uniquely my own.
I think my talent lies more in writing, though I’ve actually been doing that for even less time. I’m trying to develop an unserious self-aware writing style that relies heavily on the Rule of Cool while pointing out, if not actually subverting how silly it all is. Over the past several years I’ve been cooking up a series called A More Fantastic World, set in a counterpart Earth designed as the ultimate Fantasy Kitchen Sink. I’ve almost finally finished my first full-length story set in said world, and will probably be begging you guys for reviews once it’s fully edited, so watch out for that.
Due to insecurity in my work and a general malaise I haven’t been practicing nearly as much as I should, but I’ve recently started an exercise to force me to spend at least an hour every day drawing, writing, painting, or doing some other form of creative exercise. If you want to see examples of my drawings I’ll be posting some sketches from said practice back in the Hello, Artists thread sometime this weekend. I’m hoping that participating in Kunin activities will also give me a chance to improve my skills, so don’t hesitate to ask me to ink backgrounds, proofread, or whatever other drudgework you want done.
It’s great to meet you all ^_^
Also, William, is Everything2 a good site? I’ve been looking for a place besides FictionPress to get critique on my stories…

Slothykins, I may take you up on that "ink backgrounds" thing. If you can work in backgrounds around the art I've already drawn... I'll probably love you forever.

Also, William, is Everything2 a good site? I’ve been looking for a place besides FictionPress to get critique on my stories… It's good with one caveat, which is that you should back up your stories somewhere else because if they're not good enough they get deleted.

@blackmoon, I actually rather like drawing backgrounds, though mine usually end up being very sketchy and weirdly abstract. I'd be glad to help you out, especially if it'll make you love me forever w3, ...You mean there are people who DON'T back up their stories? I can't imagine not doing that..

I failed to back up one of my stories, which got deleted.

This thread was a good idea. It's good to know your fellow Kunin.
Just wanted to say I'm glad to meet everyone, and that we are going to KICK! SOME! ASS!

Hi, I'm FurikoMaru. You may remember me from such threads as "Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: The Livebloggening!", the first on the TV Tropes fora, or its successor, regarding Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni. I'm a writer (novels, comics, movies and songs, mostly), but thanks to extensive training by my mother I'm also an editor. When in doubt as to how a sentence would be written in proper English, my primary sources are she and Stephen Fry. It is in this capacity that I'll be involved in this endeavor. When I ''do'' write, the result usually reads as if C.S. Lewis, Joss Whedon, Oscar Wilde, Stan Lee, George Bernard Shaw and P.G. Wodehouse were forced to live in a sitcom household and raise a very awkward kid. As a result, sometimes my humour is hit-and-miss. My favourite tropes are Crouching Moron Hidden Badass, The Idiot from Osaka and Gentleman Thief. I do not ask that you like me on this forum; an editor's job is to be a nitpicky bitch, after all. I ask only that you give due consideration to my suggestions. All right. Now let's have some fun. ;D

Oi!... I love that word! And welcome, Ms. Furi! And don't worry about hatred. A good editor is a gift from God- look what the lack of one did to the Star Wars Prequels!

Hello (again). I saw the intros thread first, sorry.
I am ca7, a castration of my old battle.net name. I am Solstace's friend in real life.
Media that I like: twentieth-century science-fiction literature, for example Heinlein, Clarke, and Alice Sheldon; non-romantic Super Serious anime; modern postcyberpunk literature; and Lovecraft and his imitators. As you may know I'm fond of the macabre. It's cool that Mr. Cales is working on Bogleech. Guess where my avatar is from.
Most of my ideas are incoherent and as unstable as a Lorenz attractor, so I'll try not to bother you with them. I can draw, badly, although Dire Sloth's post heartened me. I'm mostly here to help with code.
I also can help with other people's ideas, because I have a near-encyclopedicWikipedic knowledge of, well, quite a lot.
tl;dr hey what's up I'm useless!
