Have any of you ever decided to try drawing something that is beyond the limit of what you thought you were capable of, and midway through found yourself thinking "Oh my God, this is so awful, but I'm having so much fun drawing it." I'm becoming increasingly familiar with this situation, and I'm trying to decide if it's a good thing or not...

Not really. Usually when I overextend myself artistically, I go "AGH OH GOD THE PAIN WHY WHY WHY" and I lose my will to continue or slog myself through it half-assedly.

No. I try not to work on something that's beyond my current capabilities.
However, I do set goals in mind that take into account the development of my skills later, and try to move, inch by inch, bit by bit, towards them.

I tried something like this. Didn't work. Gave up.
But, I do like to see my own art improve when I look at my inking and shading skills from stuff I made a month ago and then look at my new work.

Anyone else ever end up drawing something that turns out really good, but also a lot more fanservicey than you intended, so you can't show it to anyone? Just, y'know. Hypothetically.

Yes, except I don't usually stop to think about it before posting it places or showing it to people. So basically, stuff like this. >.>

Heh, I wouldn't say that's really fanservicey at all. It's actually tasteful.
